Was sind Featured Snippets?
Featured snippets are highlighted snippets or info boxes that give the search engine user a direct answer to their search query and are displayed before the organic search results. Users are shown the answer directly without having to click on a search result. Google uses content from other sites and tries to provide the user with the most accurate and precise answer possible. As the snippet is displayed above the organic results, this is referred to as position 0 – i.e. a top position.
For which search queries are the answer boxes displayed?
A featured snippet is not automatically hidden behind every keyword searched or every question asked. Simple questions that can be answered quickly are often answered in these info boxes. Featured snippets often appear especially for W-questions, how-tos, comparison tables and explanations of terms.
And what is the real benefit of featured snippets?
Position 0 in the Google search results provides a noticeable traffic boost and the click-through rate also improves significantly. Not only position 1 pages have the chance to move up to the top position 0, but also pages further back can achieve this. Optimising your own content for a featured snippet definitely makes sense. Although the user already receives an answer to the question they have asked, the answers in the info boxes are usually not complete, so the user clicks on the page to get all the information.
How do I get a featured snippet?
To increase the chance of getting a featured snippet, a few optimisations need to be made:
- Finding the right keyword: Which keywords and questions are actually behind a featured snippet?
- Content optimisation: With the help of HTML markups such as the p tag, a heading tag or a list tag, content can be optimised for Google so that the chances of being placed in a response box increase. However, not only the first paragraph of a text should be optimised to increase the chances of a featured snippet; the other content on a page should also be of high quality and optimised.
- Internal linking: How relevant is content really? The more often a piece of content or a page is linked internally, the more relevant it is. An internal linking strategy already plays an important role in on-page optimisation, but when it comes to optimising featured snippets, the links send additional positive signals.
