Brainlab, one of the world’s leading providers of medical technology, and the Munich-based digital agency schalk&friends will be working closely together in marketing in future – in their very own way: Expertise will be pooled and offices shared. Both partners want to participate dynamically in this in the future. schalk&friends also sees this model as a blueprint for further cooperation with other sectors and other leading medium-sized clients.

Munich, 11 November 2019. Medical technology meets digital agency: Brainlab and schalk&friends are creating individual infrastructures and cooperative workflows to implement a new model of collaboration. The aim is to build a flexible team of expertise comprising around 50 employees from various disciplines. To this end, Brainlab’s communications and marketing departments will work closely with a dedicated and exclusive team from schalk&friends.

The interdisciplinary unit will be led by schalk&friends founder Tobias Schalkhaußer, who works for both companies: as the new Executive Vice President Marketing & Digital at Brainlab and as Managing Director at schalk&friends. The two partners have already been working together successfully for over six years and now want to reach the next level together with the even closer cooperation: away from the classic client/agency relationship – towards a modern and agile collaboration that will result in more growth for both.

“As pioneers and trailblazers in medical technology, we know the enormous progress we can achieve for patients thanks to digitalisation. It is therefore important for the success of our company to make the best possible use of the opportunities offered by digital transformation in our processes, customer interfaces and, above all, in marketing,” says Stefan Vilsmeier, CEO of Brainlab. “Thanks to the strategic cooperation with schalk&friends, we now have unrestricted access to the agency’s concentrated digital expertise and decades of experience with medium-sized clients. And not just in day-to-day business, but also for strategically relevant future topics.”

Tobias Schalkhaußer, Managing Director of schalk&friends, adds: “Intensive consulting and close support for SMEs in the digital transformation has become increasingly important for us in recent years. The agency model with Brainlab is the next logical step for us. We believe that only agile constructs like this can meet the requirements and therefore want to promote this model of collaboration – in other sectors too.”

The demands placed on e-commerce are constantly increasing - not only in high-turnover B2C sectors, but also increasingly in B2B. If processes are not automated, operational limits are quickly reached when order volumes or product diversity increase. Companies of the Mittelstand in particular are realising this: Growth cannot (only) be achieved with more staff. More efficient processes, better systems and digital interfaces are also essential.

Many companies continue to use established e-commerce systems such as Magento, Oxid or Shopware 5, which have usually grown historically and are often highly customised - and this is becoming more and more of a problem. Every customised solution increases complexity and maintenance costs, and every intervention reduces adaptability.
